West Park St Helens 28 Bradford & Bingley 51

Park: Tries: Soutar (3), Briers 2 (11, 59), Webster (55). Cons: Soutar 2, Turner 2.   

Bees: Tries: Scull (6), Tafa (17), Whitfield (36), Warren (38), Pole (41), B Greaves 2 (44, 80), Hughes (62), Moore (80). Cons: Brimacombe 3.   

The home side were over for the games opening try on three minutes with Andrew Soutar going over and adding the conversion. The visitors responded three minutes later with wing Richard Scull touching down. Park were in for a 2nd try on 11 minutes with centre Stephen Briers going over and Soutar again converted for q 14-5 lead. Bradford narrowed the gap on 17 minutes when centre Richard Tafa touched down and this time Stephen Brimacombe converted.

Two tries in the last few minutes of the half turned the match the way of the Bees as hooker James Whitfield and back row forward Jarryd Warren went over for tries and with one converted they went in 24-14 ahead and the try bonus point in the bag.

The Bees were out of sight four minutes into the second half with two more tries as second row Patrick Pole and full back Benny Greaves went over and it was 36-14.

Park did come right back into it when winger Mark Turner and a second Briers try made it 36-28 with Turner converting them both on the hour mark. But three more tries from the visitors took them over the 50 points mark

The win takes the Bees up into ninth place and leaves West Park second bottom one point behind Macclesfield and two behind Morley with two matches remaining.      

 

Hull Ionians 8 Fylde 24

Ionians: Try: Kench (66). Pen: Ferguson (47).  

Fylde: Tries: Aikman 2 (2, 59), Hurst (20), Brennand (27). Cons: Nutt 2.  

Fylde are in the battle for the play off place after this win at Hull Ionians and with DMP losing at Macclesfield.

It took Fylde two minutes to get ahead when scrum half Craig Aikman went over for a try and a 5-0 lead. They got a 2nd try on 20 minutes when centre Alex Hurst went over and this time Stephen Nutt converted for 12-0.

Seven minutes later it was 19-0 with winger Ollie Brennand went over for his 20th try of the season and a two try lead in the race to finish as the leading try scorer in the division.

James Ferguson pulled three points back with a penalty goal for Ionians but the visitors got a 4th try on 59 minutes as Aikman completed a double and a 24-3 lead.

Ionians did manage to cross the Fylde try line when flanker Rob Kench touched down for a consolation. 

 

Beverley 7 Tynedale 33

Beverley: Try: Smith (63). Con: Archibald.   

Dale: Tries: Laycock 2 ((9, 27), White 2 (25, 50), Samson (37). Cons: Beasley 4.   

Champions Tynedale went 29 points clear with this win away at bottom of the table Beverley running in five tries.

There were double for winger Mark Laycock and centre Rob White as the visitors ran in four first half tries to collect their 13th try bonus point of the season. Their was also a try for their Scottish Under 20 scrum half Ross Samson and Gavin Beasley converted four of the five tries.

The home side scored a late consolation try through prop Karl Smith and scrum half Gavin Beasley converted.

  

Morley 5 Harrogate 3

Morley: Try: Hampsey (15) 

Harrogate: Pen: Wainwright (65).  

Morley won this Yorkshire derby and moved out of the relegation zone for the first time in months. It was a low scoring game which was settled when Morley winger Jon Hampsey went over for a try on 15 minutes and a 5-0 lead which was the score at the break.

In the 65th minute Nick Wainwright pulled three points back for the visitors but it was the only score of the second half as Morley took the points.

Hampsey’s winning try was his 18th of the season and leaves him two behind Fylde’s winger Ollie Brennand 

 

Macclesfield 17 Darlington MP 10

Macc: Tries: Lear (29), Morsal (52). Cons: Winney 2. Pen: Winney (46).   

DMP: Tries: Dixon (9), Oliver (65).  

Macclesfield picked up a great win over play off chasing Darlington Mowden Park and went above West Park, whose game against Bradford & Bingley was abandoned, but with Morley beating Harrogate they remain in the relegation zone.

Winger Iain Dixon got DMP off to a good start with a ninth minute try and a 5-0 lead.

Macc were in front on 29 minutes when second row Ian Lear went over and Charles Winney converted in the final score of the half.

Six minutes into the second half and Winney increased the home sides lead with a penalty goal but six minutes later replacement Adam Mursal went over and Winney again converted for a 12 point lead.

DMP did manage a second try on 65 minutes when wing Lawrence Oliver went over and they were back within a score. That though was the final score and they had to settle for a losing bonus point.

With Fylde winning at Hull Ionians DMP are now only three points clear in the battle for the play off spot.

 

Preston Grasshoppers 17 Leicester Lions 14

Hoppers: Tries: Boshoff (40), W Steel (45), Cons: Boshoff 2. Pen: Boshoff (69) 

Lions: Try: Howgate (54). Pens: Boden 3 (29, 34, 48).  

Any outside chance Leicester had of second place disappeared at Lightfoot Green with Hoppers getting the win to move into the top half of the table.

Jon Boden kicked the Lions into a 6-0 lead with two penalty goals on 29 and 34 minutes but it was Hoppers who went in at the break ahead. Fly half Gerhard Boshoff went over for a try and converted to lead 7-6.

Five minutes into the second half and Hoppers were 14-6 up after second row Wayne Steel went over and Boshoff converted.

Boden pulled three points back with a 48th minute penalty goal, it was all level on 54 minutes when flanker Marc Howgate went over the Hoppers line.

Boshoff kicked the home side to victory with a 69th minute penalty goal.

 

 

West Park St Helens 6 Bradford & Bingley 10 Abandoned after 45 minutes

West Park: Pens: Soutar 2 (11, 29) 

Bees: Try: Judson (20). Con: Rhodes. Pen: Rhodes (39).   

This match was abandoned after 45 minutes and will be replayed next Saturday. West Park courtesy of wins for Morley and Macclesfield find themselves second bottom on the table.    

 

Rugby Lions 7 Caldy 18

Lions: Try: Murphy (53). Con: Hawken.   

Caldy: Tries: Ross (42), Coast (69). Con: Mason. Pens: Mason 2 (10, 16).  

Caldy’s excellent recent form continued with this away win at Rugby Lions to consolidate sixth place in the table and they are now three points behind Harrogate.

Simon Mason kicked the visitors into a 6-0 lead with penalties on 10 and 16 minutes in the only scores of the first half.

Early in the second half they went further ahead as winger Craig Ross went over for the games opening try and Mason converted for 13-0.

The Lions were on the scoreboard on 52 minutes when right wing Chris Murphy went over and James Hawken converted.

Caldy sealed the win on 69 minutes when replacement centre Marcus Coast went over and moved them two points clear.
